"...a white American will call you a nigger to your face, but a Brit will just think it and not invite you in for tea."

YOU CAN'T DENY THE BNP A RIGHT TO BELONG!

If on the Government’s say-so civil servants including policemen and women won’t be allowed to belong to the far-right British National Party (BNP), then something is seriously wrong with this country.
I may be a Daily Mail reader but I’m not a believer, and doubt that they are either. No one in their right mind would rubber-stamp the exclusion of a person from employment based on their political leanings. Or would they?
Not that I condone the BNP or any other far-right leaning, nonsense spouting politico, but in a democratic society people must maintain freedom of choice and the right to voice their opinions. The BNP may spout a load of vile rubbish, but it’s no more or less reprehensible than the crap some back-bench politicians have delivered down the years.
Newspapers and the governments they service thrive on fear. Trying to put the screws on a political party whose fortunes fluctuate in line with varying economic and social factors is scare-mongering at its finest.
The far-right exists and there’s nothing you can really do about it. People will always have views, some they wish to express via the ballot box or by joining a particular party, and others they will keep to themselves.
Far-right politicians have been on the backbenches of Parliament, on local councils and in local constituency parties forever, and they didn’t sneak in through the back door either. We should not allow the party colours of New Labour, the Conservatives and the Lib-Dems to screen us from what we know to be true, 'you don’t have to be a member of the BNP to be a threat to elements of non-white Britain'.
The next time you are passed over for promotion or not even offered an interview for a job you’re more than qualified to do, you won’t ask yourself whether there are elements of the BNP at work in that company's HR department, you’ll just know that somebody somewhere holds racist views which we know is a factor in British society. It’s not rocket science.
We know that there are hideously white corporations who’ll shy away from employing Blacks outside of its canteens and adopts tokens elsewhere as thin equal opportunity cloak.
In Parliament as in public you never really know who’s who until something slips, and in this society it often takes a slip of the tongue for someone to show his or her true colours. Like it’s been said, a white American will call you 'nigger' to your face, but a white Brit will just think it and then not invite you to the pub.
It would be wrong to restrict civil and public servants from joining or being a member of a legitimate political party - right-wing or not. Put it this way, at least we’ll know who they are and where they are.
