You
have to laugh. 'Big Ron Atkinson' was given an entire
programme to explain away an off-air 'racial' slur about
ex-Chelsea and France defender Marcel Desailly. It was funny
watching him dig himself into an even bigger hole.
Ron’s lazy Nigger jibe, came after Chelsea lost in the
first leg of last season's Champion’s League semi-final. He's
since been excluded as a TV footie pundit.
Of
course the programme was designed to show that Big isn’t a racist
– but who really cares? It just proved he's stuck in a timewarp.
If someone said to me Heinrich Himmler didn't really hate Jews I'd
be loathed to listen to that argument as would the relatives of
six million and more of his victims, Jewish or not. What's done is
done and as Ron proved, it can't be undone.
Big Ron should've claimed to have been the victim of
the English language, which like English cooking, is so bland
it’s hard to understand what’s really meant by what’s said. Our society is very tolerant and typifies the best of British
attitudes – never saying what it really means.
Someone once said, ‘ an American will call you Nigger to your
face, but a Brit will think it and never say it’. Well not to
your face, and unless you're Big Ron most certainly not while the studio microphone is
on.
Big Ron is funny and entertaining with a comedy tan. He’s been praised for bringing along Black
football legends; Brendan Batson, Laurie Cunningham and Cyrille
Regis, but again, so what!

Still,
that’s no excuse or justification for using a racial slur, and
getting the thumbs up from the likes of Carlton Palmer - a man who
based on skill, talent and looks should never have played
international football.
Black Hat
says forget Ron and the BBC vehicle and Channel Five's
John Barnes for allowing him back onto telly at our expense.
You can’t kick racism out of football, just like you can’t
stop long established corporations, companies, institutions and
‘Simple-Simon’ broadcasters like Sky’s Frank McLintock from
being who they are and saying what they really think.
So if you harbour racist views and thoughts, or you’re an
employer who’d rather not employ Black people, we think it would
be better for everyone if you were just allowed to say so.
Stop the tip-toeing around the politically correct bush. Get Big
Ron back on telly now, even if he is stuck in some post-war dark
age where Black people are still 'darkies' or nicknamed 'chalkie'.
Big Ron and Frank got it right, and by their example either a load
of people should quit their jobs or just say what they really
think. we don't see either happening so what is the point of
this exercise or Ron Atkinson's small screen exile?
There
is none. It just means other will think carefully about what they
say, but what they think and believe in their hearts, alas we'll
never really know.
