Peter Herbert - is a barrister and the chair of the Society of Black Lawyers. He is a longstanding campaigner and a human rights advocate. Peter is just one of two Black members of the Metropolitan Police Authority - London Assembly member Jeanette Arnold is the other. On the MPA, Herbert lists a wide range of interests from employment discrimination to deaths in custody and child care law.
Away fromthe MPA, he has chaired several mental health homicide enquiries, is currently a member of the Attorney General's Race Advisory Committee, and has sat as an immigration judge since 1996. 
He was awarded the American Bar Association diversity award in Philadelphia in 2002 and was recently appointed an Employment Tribunal chair and a recorder in the Crown Court. 
In 2004 the Bar Council disciplined Herbert and not for the first time. According to reports, he was found  guilty of speaking in the ‘first person’, a decision he called a "travesty of justice" by a "kangaroo court". Herbert escaped having his license suspended and received a reprimand.
Herbet also chairs the pan-London independent Race Hate Crimes Forum, helping to combat racial violence in the capital.
