RIGHT FAILS TO MAKE ELECTION INROADS |
The
British National Party fielded a record number of
candidates in Thursday's elections, but failed to
make any significant impact. The far right
organisation won ten seats and lost eight despites
its own predictions that it could double its tally
of local councillors from 49 to more than 100. Two
BNP councillors were elected in Leicestershire,
three in Stoke, and one each in Burnely,
Loughborough and Bradford, Broxtowe near
Nottingham and Staffordshire Moorlands. |

The
soul singer Des'ree - still very big in Japan -
hit No 1 in a chart she can never have wanted to
enter, when her song Life was voted worst lyric of

FOUND BEATEN TO DEATH IN LONDON |
| POLICE
have launched a murder investigation after a
mini-cab driver was discovered beaten to death
next to his car. The body of Ali Maslah, 41, was
found dead outside a block of flats in north
London on Saturday. The married father-of-five,
from Kentish Town, London, had been involved in a
fight with a man and a woman. |

INQUIRY TO CLEAR OFFICERS |
Detectives
are understood to have been cleared of claims by a
police supergrass that the Stephen Lawrence
investigation was marred by corruption. No
evidence has emerged for allegations that a
detective was in the pay of the father of one of
the suspects, according to sources close to an
inquiry by the Independent Police Complaints
Commission. |

SHAMED
England star Joey Barton whose brother murdered
Liverpool teen Anthony Walker (left) with a
pick-axe in 2005 reportedly violently attacked a
Black French team-mate at training. According to
The Sun Barton's violent outburst may have been as
a result of the death of his cousin Alan Jones
shot by a sniper in Iraq. Barton, a player for
Manchester City, battered Black team-mate Ousmane
Dabo during a raining ground incident. The
Frenchman has reported the incident to the
police. |
