LINFORD's
BACK Former
OLYMPIC gold medal sprint ace Linford Christie
says a past drugs suspension should not be an
obstacle to his work as a mentor with leading British athletes.
Linford was banned seven years ago for a nandrolone offence by the International Association of Athletic Federations, who'd overruled a UK Athletics decision that he was innocent. Christie
has at long last been given an official role which
could boost Britain's long term athletics medal
chances |

| OPINION:KNOCK-OUT
ROLE FOR BBC's BLACK EASTENDER |
SO,
A BLACK ACTOR GETS A MEATY ROLE and it's a reason to
moan. EastEnders fans and viewers are as rare as a Black
actor on the BBC in a decent role. Think about it, when white actors
slip out of Coronation Street or EastEnders their next
port of call is Where The Heart Is, The Bill, Casualty,
Heartbeat or Holby City. When a Black character rolls
out of the Bill she ends up getting brutalised on EastEnders.
No wonder viewers complained, I would've too, except I'm a Coronation
Street fan and I know what I'm getting in lovable rogue Craig
Charles' Lloyd the cabbie. But BBC Oxbridge educated writers are
so rubbish how on earth can you expect them to get a realistic
perspective on any ethnic minority character. Bring back Ali and Sue
Osman or at least introduce some dodgy asylum seekers, a Polish
builder and a some religious fanatics. In a recent episode Denise
stabs her ex with a fork after he accosted her. She was then dragged
upstairs by her hair and beaten further. With the amount of
domestic, street violence and gun violence in Walford it really
needs a portable Police station in the square. In doing so BBC
producers can play to further stereotypes by bringing a few
gun-toting Yardies (not Gus or Julie) to complete the circle of
unoriginal storylines. Ah well BH |
