DAMILOLA
TAYLOR CASE: LAWLESS
SAVAGES
Schoolboy Damilola Taylor was killed by two lawless savages on bail for robbery.
Danny Preddie and brother Ricky were finally convicted of his manslaughter
after six years and three trials. But with time spent on remand the teenage brutes could be out on the rampage again in
three years |

DAMILOLA TAYLOR CASE:
MONSTERS
AGED TWELVE
The brutal brothers who killed Damilola Taylor were untamed monsters before reaching their teens.
Left wild to roam the streets of South East London, lawless Ricky and
Danny Preddie terrorised their neighbourhood even though they were 12 years old and barely 4ft 6ins. |

DAMILOLA TAYLOR CASE:'BRITAIN'S
YOB CULTURE LEAVES ME IN TEARS'
The father of Damilola Taylor yesterday told how the yob culture that claimed his son reduces him to tears — and he is determined to destroy it.
Richard Taylor and wife Gloria, 55, now take a stand against anti-social behaviour, violence and vandalism whenever they see it, and urge others to do the same. |

SORRY
WE'VE RUN OUT OF CELLS
Hundreds of hardened teenage criminals, including muggers and burglars, are to be freed from jail early because the Government has run out of cells.
Governors have been ordered to make a desperate trawl of young offender institutions for any convict behind bars who might be suitable for early release. |

HIS
GENTLE SOUL CAN REST AT LAST
The parents of Damilola Taylor finally achieved justice for their son yesterday after a six-year battle blighted by appalling scientific bungles and police errors.
Teenage street robbers Danny and Ricky Preddie face lengthy jail terms after an Old Bailey jury found them guilty of killing the ten-year-old in November 2000. |

TWO
INQUIRIES, THREE TRIALS AND A SERIES OF BLUNDERS LATER...
The parents of Damilola Taylor finally witnessed justice for their son
when two teenage gang members were convicted of his killing six years ago after a £16m investigation blighted by mistakes and setbacks.
Police across the country are reviewing scores of murders in case failures in the government-run forensic science laboratory, which were exposed in the trial, have let killers remain free. |

INTERNET
CRIME HAS GROWN MORE LUCRATIVE THAN DRUG TRADE
Revelations of a flaw in HSBC's personal online banking system has brought about the nightmare scenario for any financial institution - potential security failure.
Fifteen years after the birth of the world wide web, people are putting increasing amounts of trust into the medium, and banks have thrown corresponding levels of effort, expertise and cash into their online security. |

| OPINION:
SO WHERE WERE THE PARENTS
IN ALL THIS? |
IT'S
A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS when the parents of children
involved in crime refuse to take any sort of responsibility for the actions of
their kids. It's become a habit in our community to blame 'errant
fathers', but it takes two people to make a child - beastly or
otherwise. Tony Thomas, the father of Adrian Thomas,
the ringleader of the drug gang involved in the sickening 2005
torture, rape and murder of Reading teenager Mary-Ann Leneghan
apologised for the actions of his child wishing he could have made
things different, by getting involved with his child's upbringing -
a somewhat late gesture. But where are the parents when and as their
offspring are going off the rails? Recently, I witnessed a mother
arguing with a pregnant woman over a seat on a crowded bus.
"We're not in Africa now, what gives you the right to take my
son's seat?" she demanded. "Who the hell are you,
anyway?" Instead of praising her son, she'd automatically given him
a crash course in modern manners and what a sad spectacle too. Your
heart must go out to the parents of Damilola Taylor.
Who do they blame for his murder do you think? BH |
