Your daily guide to who the papers talk about and what they say in regards to Black people

ADAM AFRIYIE - member of parliament for Windsor

..he comes comes across as the typical straight-
laced, umbrella swinging, tea swilling, stiff upper lipped blue blooded Tory - an anomaly

----------------

Arguably we've listed the most influential Black people in Britain. Whether they work in the public or private sector, are wealthy or not. They are here by virtue of the influence they have in defining life and how we as a community live, are viewed and treated in Britain.
This list is in no way complete, and we are not saying we are right  - but justify the reason for an inclusion or exclusion and we will happily amend.

Adam Afriyie - In becoming a Tory Party MP Adam Afriyie the multi-millionaire Adam Afriye MP for Windsorbusinessman has succeeded where Lord Taylor failed, albeit a decade later. That Black people traditionally vote Tory had little to do with the 39 year-olds’ rise, and he didn’t scrape in either.
Afriyie won with over 11,000 votes to spare taking close to half the vote. It looked like he could be destined for the big time but his political activities to date remain low-key and confined to his Windsor constituency. For the 2005 general election the Tories reportedly fronted some 40 Black prospective parliamentary candidates of which only Afriyie came through and was gifted the relatively safe Windsor seat.
He was born in Wimbledon in 1965 to a white English mother and a Ghanaian father. He's a graduate of the University of London (Imperial College) and says he is proud to be British and wants to help restore pride in being British.

The business

Afriyie was the founding director of Connect Services an IT services company which was listed among the fastest growing private companies in 2002. He is also the chairman of DeHavilland Information Services plc.
He's an active sportsman and plays basketball, tennis, badminton and skiing. Adam is single and can be contacted via the House of Commons or the Windsor Conservative Association.
